Best Public Art Piece/Sculpture in Naperville: The Dandelion Fountain Wins the Friday Poll!

Naperville · Community Photo

Naperville is home to many beautiful public art pieces and landmarks that make the community special. From creative sculptures to fountains and artistic displays, these local treasures give residents and visitors plenty to appreciate.

This week, Naperville locals voted for their favorite public art piece or sculpture, andThe Dandelion Fountain won!

Located in Civic Plaza at the corner of Jackson Avenue and Webster Street, the Dandelion Fountain is a recognizable landmark along the Naperville Riverwalk in downtown Naperville. Named for its distinctive dandelion-like shape, the fountain is surrounded by beautiful landscaping. It sits near the Riverwalk's covered bridge, making it a lovely spot for visitors to pause, take photos, or simply enjoy the scenery.

A Recognizable Landmark Along the Riverwalk

The Dandelion Fountain is located in Civic Plaza, a scenic gathering spot surrounded by trees, flowers, greenery, and the nearby covered bridge.

Its unique design resembles the delicate, rounded shape of a dandelion, giving the fountain its memorable name. The surrounding landscape makes it a lovely place to stop, take photos, enjoy the scenery, or simply relax while exploring the Riverwalk.

The fountain is also part of the larger Naperville Riverwalk, which was dedicated in 1981 as a gift to the community in celebration of Naperville's 150th anniversary. Since then, the Riverwalk has become one of the city's most treasured destinations.

More Than Just a Fountain

For many residents, the Dandelion Fountain is more than a decorative feature. It is part of the everyday experience of visiting downtown Naperville.

The fountain and surrounding Civic Plaza provide a welcoming gathering spot for families, visitors, and community members. Children can enjoy the water sprays, while others stop nearby to relax, take pictures, or enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

Its location near the covered bridge and winding Riverwalk paths also makes it a convenient stop for anyone exploring the area's parks, shops, and restaurants.

Whether you're taking a leisurely walk, meeting friends, or showing visitors around town, the Dandelion Fountain is one of those familiar Naperville landmarks worth visiting.

A Little Something You Might Not Know

Here's an interesting detail about the fountain: its basin was originally aqua blue but was painted black in 2025. The change was partly prompted by concerns about children wading in the fountain and damaging its nozzles.

It's a small detail, but it shows how even familiar community landmarks can change over time while remaining a special part of Naperville's Riverwalk.

Other Public Art Pieces That Received Nominations

The Dandelion Fountain had some great competition in this week's poll! Other nominated public art pieces and sculptures included:

Each piece brings something unique to Naperville's public spaces and adds to the character and creativity of the community.
